Fall 2014: Five Truths
1. I'm a 33 year old mom of two sweet little boys and wife of one sweet tall man in San Francisco.
2. I am transitioning out of my role of Breadwinner and into a more Stay-ish @ Home-ish mama.
3. I hate my hair pretty much every day and cringe at every picture of myself that shows more than my face.
4. I'm confident in the kitchen and want to make other people confident in the kitchen. That's partly why I'm creating this blog.
5a. I hate how competitive people are, especially now with every showcasing their Pinterest Perfect lives. I fall into this trap often - feeling bad about my body, day, life because someone I went to high school with posted some awesome picture of an awesome moment in an awesome place. I also am sure I annoy (or depress) other people when I post pictures of moments from my life. I struggle with sharing so much of my life with a crowd, and yet I love the attention.
5b. I'm an attention whore.

So, here's the thing about this blog. It's a place for my to document my journey to becoming a healthier, happier lady in one of the best cities in the world. Yes, I had a baby three months ago and have baby weight to lose, but I also have Life Weight that I've carried for years. It needs to go.
And, I love food. I love everything about food - the thinking about food, writing and reading about it, shopping for it, talking about it, cooking it, eating it, singing about it. I love it all. [Unless it is cilantro or seaweed in which case I hate it with the hot heat of one thousand hells. Because that shit is gross.] So I'll be talking a lot about food here.
I believe healthy food is home-cooked food. Right now my family probably eats 75% homemade food - and I want that number to go up. I don't think I'll be churning my own butter, but I am currently and will be making much of the food we eat from scratch(ish,,, because why should I make butter when Kerrygold does it so well?).
I'll be sharing those adventures in cookery, the family planning and menus, the recipes, the ingredient finds -- all of it -- on this blog. Including a section about cooking for kids (stay tuned for the #crapmykideats segments...) and getting your offspring into the kitchen with you.
And speaking of kids - you'll probably also see a whole lot of parenting talk on this blog, too, since with a two year old and an infant, our family is in the early stages. We're creating this new normal from scatch(ish), too. The blessing that is a second child means that the baby part isn't hard, but the logistics of baby + "new parent syndrome" + active toddler are tricky.

So, Scratchish?
It means that most of our lives are created from nothing, from matter, from ideas, from imagination, from separate ingredients. We put it all together. Our children, our marriages, our meals. But some things really are ready-made, pre-packaged or processed. So on this blog, we'll be talking about life, love, family and food - all made from scratch(ish).
